Research Profile
Liz Johnstone obtained her PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Western Australia, where she investigated the unique pharmacology obtained by angiotensin receptors upon their heteromerisation with other receptors. During her PhD she was also involved in the development of various bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET) based assays, which allow pharmacological profiling of receptors in live cells in real time. In her current role with the ARC CPTT she plans to continue developing BRET and other biophysical assays in order to provide state-of-the-art in vitro cellular profiling platforms for therapeutic testing. The aim of this research is to develop drug discovery systems with high physiological relevance that will reduce the cost of drug R&D by allowing potential leads to fail early in the discovery process.
